Seeing so many local parrots in neglectful situations, there was not an organization in Cowlitz County that could help remove birds and place them in a safe, permanent environment and for that reason Feathers of A Flock was created. We have a simple belief: Parrots deserve to be safe, understood, and cared for throughout their lives. 

Our passion and drive to make every bird that comes to our sanctuary know that this is a place of love, caring, and a safe environment. 

 Feathers of A Flock grew from love of parrots and a desire to create a place where birds would not be forgotten when life circumstances changed. What began with a passion for helping individual parrots has grown into a vision for something bigger: a sanctuary where parrots can receive compassionate care, meaningful enrichment, and a safe place to call home. We believe every bird who comes through our doors should be treated as an individual.  Every parrot has a different history. Every parrot has a different personality. Every parrot has different needs. And every one deserves to be seen for who they are. We believe parrots should never be treated as objects, decorations, or interchangeable pets. Parrots are extraordinary intelligent animals with individual personalities, preferences, relationships, fears, and needs. They are social, emotional, and capable of forming incredibly strong bonds with the people around them. Because of this, some parrots may be able to move into another appropriate home, others may need permanent sanctuary like Feathers of A Flock due to special needs that make traditional rehoming difficult like aggressive behavior: Screaming, Biting, Chewing, Plucking, unable to bond with owner. When a bird becomes a lifetime resident, we accept the responsibility of caring for that bird for the rest of its life. Did you know: They can also live for many decades, which means bringing a parrot into your life is a commitment that can last for generations. This is what we call Quality of life, a safe cage and food are not enough. Parrots need enrichment, social interaction, appropriate nutrition, opportunities to exercise, mental stimulation, veterinary care, and an environment where their individual needs are respected. 

We are more than a Sanctuary or a next chapter, we are building a community around Parrot Welfare. Feathers of A Flock isn't just about the birds who live here. It's also about the people who make their care possible. We have Volunteers, Donors, Sponsors and community members who count on us too. Our Commitment to the Birds is simple: When a parrot comes into our care, we want that bird to know something important: You are safe here. We strive to provide each sanctuary resident with individualized care based on their history, personality, behavior, and needs. Our goal is not simply to keep parrots alive. Our goal is to give them a life worth living.  

Looking toward our Future, while Feathers of A Flock is still growing, our goal is not simply to take in more birds. Growth must mean better care, greater sustainability, stronger community support, and a better future for the parrots who depend on us. We are working toward a future that can include expanded sanctuary capacity, improved facilities, increased educational opportunities, stronger volunteer programs, and additional resources for parrots and the people who care for them. Every step forward brings us closer to that vision.
