Feathers of a Flock was founded in 2020 with a passion for ensuring that our feathered friends had a safe and loving place to call home.
Seeing so many local parrots in neglectful situations, there was not an organization in Cowlitz County that could help remove birds, like Simon, and place them in a safe, permanent environment. We decided we would be that sanctuary for them.
Our passion and drive to make every bird that comes to our sanctuary know that this is a place of love, caring, and a safe environment.
Our story started back in 2020 when we meant Simon, a Blue and Gold Macaw. She was sad, lonely, abused and in need of a family. My family and I decided at that moment that we wanted her. She bonded with me (Savannah) within hours. She would not leave my side and only wanted me. I showed her a kindness that she never felt. I gave her the love she was looking for in a companion. From that day forward, Simon and I have been glued at the hips. We started seeing more and more birds just like Simon in our area. Knowing how she felt that day we got her, and how much she needed a place to call HOME, we opened our hearts and our home to new birds just like her. We found out how much these feathered babies needed us and how much happiness they gave to our family in return. We sat down at the table and decided that this was our calling. This is what we wanted to do as a family, to build a sanctuary. With each new bird that found their way to us, they found that their new environment had everything they needed. They found love, compassion, understanding, and patience. But most of all, they found HOME! We made sure each bird goes to the vet, has a healthy diet, plenty of outdoor time, harness training, one on one time, and so much more! We took classes, along with therapy classes, read books, and got volunteer time at rescue centers to learn more. We still learn something new every day and would love to teach our community about these amazing birds and what it really takes to give them the best life! Here we don't believe in wing clipping, breeding or selling. We believe these remarkable, feathered babies deserve a place they can be free from all the bad and have a place where they can be themselves.
